The San Francisco Food Bank's third annual Hunger Challenge kicked off yesterday with several participants who have agreed to spend one week eating on just $4 per day. The Hunger Challenge allows its participants to eat for one day or a whole week on $4/day to experience what it is like to have very limited means to feed and nourish ourselves. The first year, several food writers and bloggers, who spend most of their time blogging about fabulous restaurants, gorgeous, fresh, local produce and how to cook, took the challenge. They shared how difficult it was to plan for, procure and cook with limited ingredients. They shared how they felt--including the hunger they experienced (one participant didn't plan enough protein).
The Challenge continues again. For more information, or to participate, click here.
